Quick recap

On their way to Scotland, Jamie and Claire get swept up in the Revolution: they pass through Ticonderoga and fight at Saratoga. The book also follows Lord John and William, who serves in the British army without knowing who his father is, and young Ian, who falls for the Quaker Rachel Hunter. In Scotland, the Lallybroch family faces a loss. In 1980, Roger and Brianna live at Lallybroch and read the letters Jamie and Claire left behind. Back in America, Claire hears that Jamie's ship went down and marries Lord John. The book ends on a pile of cliffhangers: Jamie turns up alive, William learns the truth, and a threat falls on Brianna's children in 1980.
