The Grace siblings visit Great-Aunt Lucinda, Arthur Spiderwick's daughter, who lives in a psychiatric clinic. She tells them what she's lived through since childhood: her father vanished when she was little, and the faeries never left her alone. For the first time, someone confirms what the kids have seen. On the way back, the Graces meet elves and a phooka, creatures very different from the ones they already know. Bit by bit, they piece it together and realize Arthur may be trapped in the faerie world. The book ends on that suspicion, with the siblings deeper than ever in the Guide's world.
