Jared Grace

After the divorce, Helen Grace moves Jared, his twin Simon and their sister Mallory into the Spiderwick estate, abandoned for decades. Jared blames his mom for the split and wants to go live with his dad. In the old house, he's the one causing trouble, and the one who gets blamed when things go missing.

That angry kid is the one who finds a secret room and, inside it, Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide. A note asks that no one open the book. Jared opens it.

The Guide draws the wrong kind of attention. Thimbletack, the brownie who guards the house, flies into a rage. Goblins take Simon, and Jared goes after him. With help from the hobgoblin Hogsqueal, he starts seeing the creatures that live in hiding, and nothing feels safe anymore. Jared learns the ogre Mulgarath wants the book at any cost.

The siblings visit Great-Aunt Lucinda, who tells them her father was taken by sylphs. A griffin carries the kids to the sylphs' realm, where they find Arthur. Thimbletack had swapped the pages, so the real Guide is still with the Graces. Arthur distracts the sylphs, and the kids escape.

On the full moon, the goblins break the circle protecting the house. The family fights back with whatever's in the kitchen. Mulgarath shows up disguised as Richard, their father, and Jared stabs him, exposing the ogre. The chase ends on the roof: Mulgarath turns into a raven to grab the Guide, and Hogsqueal eats him. Jared makes peace with his mom and decides to stay with her.

In the 2024 series, Lyon Daniels plays Jared. After the divorce, the Graces trade Brooklyn for the estate in Henson, Michigan. Jared meets the boggart Thimbletack and learns magical creatures are real. Great-Aunt Lucinda asks him to recover the pages of Arthur's guide and keep them from Mulgarath, who's closer than Jared thinks: the ogre is posing as his therapist, Dr. Brauer.

At the end of the season, Mulgarath takes Jared's form. In the chaos, Mallory's sword hits the real Jared and sends him to the faerie realm. There he meets his own ancestor, Arthur Spiderwick. The series ends with Jared stuck on that side and the impostor at home.

In Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black's books, Jared is also the hot-tempered twin who finds the Guide and leads his siblings.
