Quick recap

Mallory goes missing, taken by the dwarves, and ends up trapped in a glass coffin in their mines. Jared and Simon go down after her, into an underground realm where nothing is what it seems, and manage to rescue her. Along the way, the siblings see Mulgarath, the shapeshifting ogre, for the first time and learn he's had the Guide all along. The ogre's goblins kill the dwarves. The Graces make it out alive, but now they know who the enemy is and how much power he has. The book ends with Mulgarath stronger and the siblings unsure how to fight him.
