Quick recap

1812. At Ciudad Rodrigo, a mine wounds Colonel Lawford, who loses an arm and leaves the South Essex. Sergeant Obadiah Hakeswill joins the company swearing to kill Sharpe. Teresa tells Sharpe she's had his daughter, Antonia, and lives in Badajoz. The new colonel, Windham, reverses Sharpe's promotion and drops him back to lieutenant, and a Hakeswill frame-up gets Harper busted and flogged. Sharpe wants to lead the first-wave volunteers to win back his rank, but Wellington refuses. On the night of the assault, Sharpe gets through a breach and reaches Teresa's house, where Hakeswill is threatening Antonia. The sergeant escapes out a window and deserts. Windham apologizes, both men get their ranks back and Sharpe marries Teresa.
