Quick recap

1811. Sharpe's company catches gray-uniformed French soldiers attacking a village. Their leader, Brigadier Guy Loup, offers a deal for the prisoners, but Sharpe has them shot, and Loup swears revenge. Wellington has Sharpe train the Real Compañía Irlandesa, the Spanish king's Irish guard, hoping it will desert. The spy Ducos uses Doña Juanita, mistress of both Loup and the guard's commander Lord Kiely, to spread fake newspapers. Loup massacres a fort's Portuguese garrison. Kiely kills himself, and Sharpe shoots Father Sarsfield, the traitor. At Fuentes de Oñoro, the Irish turn the battle. At the river ford, Juanita shoots Sharpe and Harper kills her. Wounded, Sharpe drowns Loup, and the charges against him are dropped.
