Puss in Boots

Puss grows up in a San Ricardo orphanage, where he befriends Humpty Dumpty. He earns his boots by saving a woman from a bull, but Humpty drags him into a robbery, and the town hero becomes a wanted cat.

Years later, he meets Kitty Softpaws in a dance-off at a tavern. With her and Humpty, he steals the magic beans from Jack and Jill, a feared outlaw couple, and falls for Kitty. Then he learns it was all a trap set by Humpty. In the end he saves the town, forgives his old friend and clears his name with his adoptive mother, Imelda.

King Harold pays Puss to take out Shrek. The attack ends with Puss beaten by a hairball and begging for his life.

He switches to Shrek's side, competes with Donkey for best friend and helps storm the king's castle. That's where the world first sees his big pleading eyes, used to distract the guards.

On the hunt for Artie, Puss tags along with Shrek, and one of Merlin's botched spells swaps his body with Donkey's. The two spend the rest of the adventure in each other's bodies until the swap is undone.

In Rumpelstiltskin's world, Puss never met Shrek. He's Fiona's fat, lazy pet and has to get off the cushion to help fight Rumpelstiltskin.

After burning through eight lives without noticing, Puss learns he has only one left. The Wolf on his trail scares him for the first time. He buries his hat and boots and moves into Mama Luna's house as an ordinary cat, where he meets Perrito.

When he has a panic attack, Perrito is the one who calms him down. Racing Goldilocks, the Three Bears and Jack Horner for the Wishing Star, with Kitty and Perrito at his side, he wants his lives back but learns to value the one he has. He gives up the wish, stands up to the Wolf and sails off with his friends toward Far Far Away.

Puss comes from Charles Perrault's 1697 tale Le Maître chat ou le Chat botté. Antonio Banderas voices him in English and also dubbed him in Spanish.
