Sinners is set in 1932. Twin brothers Smoke and Stack Moore, both World War I veterans, come home to Clarksdale, Mississippi, after seven years working for the Chicago mob. They arrive with stolen cash and a plan: buy an abandoned sawmill and turn it into a juke joint for the area's Black community.
To run the place, the brothers pull together a crew of locals. Their cousin Sammie, a young singer and guitar player, signs on even though his father, a preacher, calls the blues the devil's music. The kid's talent turns heads from the first chord.
Everything comes together in a single day, with liquor, food and live music ready for opening night. The room fills up, the band gets loud, and it looks like the twins finally hit it right. But Sammie's music draws in more than paying customers, and a threat from outside starts circling the party.
