In Sentimental Value, sisters Nora and Agnes Borg have just lost their mother. Nora is a stage actress in Oslo, gifted and wracked with nerves before every show. Agnes, the younger one, lives a quieter life with her husband and son.
In the middle of the grief, their father Gustav turns up. He was once a respected filmmaker, but he spent years away from the family and away from the camera. Now he wants to make a comeback, and he has a script written with Nora in mind for the lead.
Nora turns him down on the spot. Her resentment toward him is old and still raw. Gustav doesn't drop the project: he brings in Rachel Kemp, a young Hollywood star, to take the part.
Worse, the shoot will happen in the family house, the place where the sisters grew up and where a lot was left unsaid. With the crew on its way, each of them has to decide how far she wants to let her father back in.
