The Voice of Hind Rajab plays out almost entirely inside a Red Crescent call center. It is January 29, 2024. The phone rings, and on the other end is a six-year-old girl trapped in a car in Gaza, with gunfire all around.
Rana, one of the volunteers, takes the call. The job sounds simple: keep Hind talking, calm her down and figure out where she is. Meanwhile Mahdi, the coordinator, tries to get clearance to send an ambulance. Without a cleared route, the team cannot move. Omar and the others share the room, the fear and the frustration.
The film blends actors with the real audio of the call. The voice begging for help is Hind's own. Kaouther Ben Hania never shows Gaza. All the tension sits on the faces of the people listening, in the minutes ticking by and in the red tape that stalls every move.
Based on the real killing of Hind Rajab, a Palestinian girl killed in Gaza in January 2024
