Their new guardian is Aunt Josephine, who's afraid of almost everything and lives in a house hanging over Lake Lachrymose. Captain Sham, a peg-legged sailor, is Olaf in disguise, and Josephine doesn't believe the kids. She vanishes, leaving a note that hands custody to Sham. Klaus decodes the grammar mistakes in the note and finds her hiding place: Curdled Cave. A hurricane wrecks the house while the three steal a boat. Josephine faked her own death out of fear. On the way back, leeches attack, and Olaf arrives and leaves Josephine to them. Sunny bites the fake peg leg, the tattoo shows, and Olaf escapes again.
