The fake wedding

Violet is 14 when a fire destroys the Baudelaire mansion and kills her parents. She, Klaus and Sunny are placed with Count Olaf, who only wants the family fortune, held by the bank until Violet turns 18.

Olaf stages The Marvelous Marriage so he can marry Violet for real, with a judge in the cast, and locks up Sunny to force her to go along. Violet signs the certificate with her left hand, though she's right-handed, so the marriage doesn't count. Olaf escapes.

An inventor against disguises

When she needs to invent something, Violet ties her hair back with a ribbon to keep it out of her eyes. That's how she gets her siblings out of one jam after another, using whatever is at hand.
