Quick recap

Wounded, Geralt of Rivia rests at the temple of Melitele under the care of the priestess Nenneke and remembers recent jobs. He breaks the curse on a Temerian princess turned striga. He meets Nivellen, a man with a beast's face, and the creature who loves him. In Blaviken he kills Renfri and her gang and earns the name Butcher. At a banquet in Cintra he defends Pavetta's betrothed and claims the Law of Surprise. He travels with Dandelion (Jaskier) to the edge of Elven land and later frees a djinn, which leads him to Yennefer of Vengerberg. His last wish binds the two of them. As the frame story ends, Geralt leaves the temple, unsure where destiny is pushing him.

What changed on screen

  1. ChangeNo temple frame

In the book, the stories are Geralt's memories while he recovers at a temple of Melitele, in the frame story The Voice of Reason. S1 drops that frame and spreads the stories across three timelines, alongside Yennefer's and Ciri's.

  2. ChangeBlaviken weighs more

The story of Renfri and Stregobor becomes episode 1. The show puts more weight on Geralt trying to save them both and makes the fight with Renfri haunt him far longer.

  3. ChangeTriss joins the striga hunt

In the story of Temeria's cursed princess, Geralt faces the striga alone. On the show, Triss Merigold is part of it.
