Quick recap

Fresh out of Kaer Morhen, young Geralt kills a deserter who was attacking a peasant girl and is sentenced to hang. He's saved by Preston Holt, an old, ailing witcher who becomes his mentor. Estevan Trillo da Cunha, prefect of the Kaedwen guard, presses Geralt for evidence against Holt, who is accused of three killings. Geralt learns that Holt survived the Kaer Morhen massacre by leaving his comrades behind and later killed the attack's ringleaders. The mage Artamon of Asguth, author of the pamphlet that inspired the massacre, orders Holt and the priestesses of Melitele killed. Geralt kills Artamon, and Holt takes the blame. Wounded, Geralt saves the priestesses, takes revenge on two of the killers and lets the third escape to save children from a monster.
