Yennefer of Vengerberg

Yennefer is sold to Tissaia de Vries for four marks and taken to Aretuza. There she discovers her power and falls for Istredd, until she learns he was spying on her. At graduation she trades her hunchback for beauty in a transformation that leaves her unable to have children. Sent to serve in Aedirn, she watches the queen and her baby die and runs.

Years later, on a djinn hunt, she meets Geralt, who uses his last wish to save her. They get involved. Wanting a child, she joins a dragon hunt, but pulls away from Geralt when she learns about the wish. At Sodden, Yennefer unleashes a wave of fire on Nilfgaard's army and vanishes.

Yennefer is alive, but she's captured by Fringilla and then by Francesca's elves. In an enchanted hut, the Deathless Mother, Voleth Meir, shows the sorceresses visions, and Yennefer loses her magic. On the run with Cahir, she accepts Voleth Meir's deal: her powers back in exchange for Ciri. In Oxenfurt she saves Jaskier from Rience, gets arrested by the guards and escapes by summoning Voleth Meir.

Yennefer teaches Ciri to open portals. When Voleth Meir possesses the girl at Kaer Morhen, Yennefer offers herself instead. Ciri saves her, and Yennefer gets her magic back.

On the run with Geralt and Ciri, Yennefer starts training the girl and takes her to Aretuza. After a fight, the two grow close when they see how alike their pasts are. Yennefer persuades the Brotherhood of Sorcerers to host a conclave and throws a ball. With Geralt, she works out that the traitor is Vilgefortz. The coup destroys Aretuza, and Tissaia, Yennefer's mentor, takes her own life. Yennefer storms Vilgefortz's fortress and finds the bodies of the students he kidnapped.

Set on hunting Vilgefortz, Yennefer recruits Philippa and Fringilla and gathers sorceresses at Montecalvo. Vilgefortz attacks, Vesemir and Margarita die, and Istredd sacrifices himself to shut down the portal network. Yennefer goes to Nilfgaard, learns the Ciri there is a fake and reunites with Geralt, briefly. She leaves Triss in charge of the sorceresses and crosses the sea after Vilgefortz.

In the books, Yennefer debuts in the story The Last Wish, where she meets Geralt because of a djinn. The show invented her youth at Aretuza. Anya Chalotra plays her on the series and voices her in Sirens of the Deep.
