Quick recap

In Emond's Field, in the Two Rivers, Trollocs attack on a festival night. The Aes Sedai Moiraine and her Warder, Lan, take Rand, Mat and Perrin away, because the Dark One's servants are hunting one of the three. Egwene comes along, and the gleeman Thom Merrilin and the Wisdom Nynaeve join the group. In the ruins of Shadar Logoth, they split up: Mat picks up a cursed dagger, Perrin finds he can talk to wolves and Rand channels without knowing it. They reunite in Caemlyn and push on to Fal Dara. At the Eye of the World, they face the Forsaken Aginor and Balthamel. Rand wields the One Power, wipes out the Trolloc army and defeats Ba'alzamon. Moiraine concludes Rand is the Dragon Reborn but keeps it to herself.

What changed on screen

  1. ChangeFive candidates, not three

In the book, only Rand, Mat and Perrin are ta'veren, and Moiraine is after one of the three boys. The show adds Egwene and Nynaeve and makes all five possible Dragons.

  2. ChangePerrin wasn't married

The show gives Perrin a wife, Laila, whom he accidentally kills with his axe the night the Trollocs attack. None of that is in the book, and Brandon Sanderson, a consultant on the show, disagreed with the change.

  3. ChangeCaemlyn got cut

In the book, Caemlyn is where Rand meets Loial and Elayne and first sees Logain. The show cut the whole city from Season 1.

  4. ChangeA different climax at the Eye

In the book, all five Two Rivers friends reach the Eye, the Green Man sacrifices himself and they face the Forsaken Aginor and Balthamel. In the show, Rand goes alone with Moiraine, and she ends up cut off from the Source.
