Moiraine Damodred

The Blue Ajah Aes Sedai searching for the Dragon Reborn

Moiraine Damodred is an Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah, born into a noble house of Cairhien. For twenty years she has been searching for the Dragon Reborn, the man destined to face the Dark One. She travels with Lan Mandragoran, her Warder, and arrives in the Two Rivers convinced the answer is there.

Arriving in Emond's Field

Moiraine and Lan reach Emond's Field on the eve of a festival. When the Trollocs attack, she fights with the One Power, is poisoned and convinces Rand, Egwene, Perrin and Mat to flee with her: one of them may be the Dragon. Nynaeve follows, suspicious.

The group crosses the river at Taren Ferry and gets lost in the ruins of Shadar Logoth. Later, when the false Dragon Logain attacks the Aes Sedai escorting him, Moiraine and Lan survive only thanks to Nynaeve's Healing.

Tar Valon and the Eye of the World

In Tar Valon, the Amyrlin Siuan Sanche puts Moiraine on trial in public, makes her kneel and then exiles her. In secret, the two are lovers and partners in the search. Moiraine leads the young people through the Ways to Fal Dara and, in the Blight, gets her answer: Rand is the Dragon Reborn.

At the Eye of the World, Ishamael cuts her off from the Source. Rand defeats the Forsaken, but Moiraine ends the season unable to channel. Without the Power, she can't unmask the bond she had muffled with Lan, and she knows this was only the first clash with the Shadow.

Cut off

In S2, Moiraine still can't touch the One Power, and the distance between her and Lan grows. Even so, she stays on Rand's trail. Near the end, Lanfear throws them both through a gateway, and they land on a beach overlooking Falme.

There Lan asks her to restore their bond, and they reconcile. With the Power back, Moiraine wrecks the Seanchan fleet that was keeping Rand from channeling and conjures a dragon of light atop the tower to announce his return to the world.

Rhuidean and the duel

In S3, Moiraine guides the group across the Aiel Waste. In Rhuidean, she goes in with Rand and sees many possible futures: in some she dies, in others Rand does. In the end, he carries her out. Later she admits she was always ready to end Rand if he turned to the Shadow.

In the Tower, Elaida topples Siuan, and Moiraine feels through the Power the moment her friend is executed. In her duel with Lanfear, who stabs her in the gut, that grief sets her free: she grabs Lan's sword and slashes the Forsaken's throat, and Lanfear escapes through a gateway.

In comics and books

In Robert Jordan's books, Moiraine is looking for three boys, not five young people, and she doesn't lose the Power early in the story. Her younger years with Siuan and her first meeting with Lan are in the prequel New Spring. The romance between Moiraine and Siuan is the show's choice.
