Egwene al'Vere

The innkeeper's daughter from Emond's Field

Egwene al'Vere is the daughter of the Emond's Field innkeeper and has been with Rand since they were young. At the start of the show, she joins the village Women's Circle, guided by Nynaeve, the Wisdom. When Moiraine arrives, Egwene learns she is among the young people the Aes Sedai is looking for.

The Women's Circle

Nynaeve welcomes Egwene into the Women's Circle. After braiding her hair, she pushes Egwene into the river rapids as a village rite, and Egwene makes it to the bank. That same night the Trollocs attack, and Egwene believes Nynaeve is dead. Moiraine talks the group into running.

On the road, she and Perrin are taken in by the Tuatha'an, a nomadic people who reject violence. Near Tar Valon, Eamon Valda's Whitecloaks capture Egwene and Perrin and accuse her of being Aes Sedai. Egwene channels a spark, frees Perrin, stabs Valda and escapes with the rings of dead Aes Sedai.

The Tower and Fal Dara

In Tar Valon, Egwene reunites with Nynaeve and meets the Amyrlin Siuan Sanche, who praises her for returning the rings. Then she travels the Ways with the group and channels when a Trolloc appears.

In Fal Dara, Shadowspawn pour in through Tarwin's Gap. The women of the city link through the Power to hold them back, and Amalisa burns out. Nynaeve is badly hurt shielding Egwene, and Egwene Heals her, the way she saw the Aes Sedai do it.

Damane

In S2, Egwene trains in the White Tower as a novice. She ends up in Falme, where the Seanchan capture her. Through a collar called an a'dam, she becomes a damane, leashed to a sul'dam named Renna, who forces her to use the Power.

In the battle, Renna makes Egwene attack the Whitecloaks. A blast kills almost every sul'dam and damane in the tower, but the two survive. Egwene gets the collar onto Renna, uses what little she can channel to manipulate her into freeing her, then forces her to die. With Perrin, she still shields Rand and Mat from Ishamael.

The dreamwalker

In S3, Egwene passes her Accepted test and leaves the Tower to rejoin Rand. She's far more critical of the White Tower than before. In the Aiel Waste, she has troubling dreams and learns to walk in Tel'aran'rhiod, the World of Dreams. Her romance with Rand goes on, but Lanfear complicates everything.

By the finale, Egwene has mastered dreamwalking and appears in Rand's visions with Lanfear. When he brings rain to the Waste and seems drunk on power, she's the one who begs him to let go.

Off screen

In comics and books

In the books, Egwene is Nynaeve's apprentice, isn't ta'veren and isn't one of the Dragon candidates: Moiraine is looking only for three boys. The show gives her more weight from the start and makes her much more critical of the White Tower.
