Quick recap

1814. The war ends at Toulouse, but Sharpe's doesn't. After a duel with Colonel Wigram, he's accused of stealing Napoleon's treasure on the word of Ducos, who stole the gold himself. Jailed, he escapes with help from Harper and Captain Frederickson and goes looking for the one man who can clear him, French commander Maillot. Meanwhile Jane, in London with Sharpe's money, becomes Lord Rossendale's lover. In Normandy, Maillot is killed before Sharpe arrives, and his sister Lucille nearly kills Sharpe by mistake before nursing him. The two fall in love. Ducos is shot from a distance as he tries to flee, and Sharpe and Harper say goodbye to Lucille.
