Quick recap

1814. Sharpe wounds Bampfylde in a duel, and an unhappy Jane heads home alone to London with control of his money. After the Battle of Toulouse the war ends, and Sharpe finds Jane has withdrawn over 18,000 pounds. He and Frederickson are arrested for stealing Napoleon's treasure on the word of Ducos, who stole it. They escape to find Lassan, the French commander who can clear them, but Ducos' killers murder him first. His sister Lucille nearly kills Sharpe by mistake, nurses him, and they fall in love. Jane becomes Lord Rossendale's lover. In Naples, Sharpe and General Calvet seize the treasure and Ducos, and escape by firing gold coins from a cannon. Ducos faces a firing squad, and Sharpe goes back to Lucille.
