Quick recap

1813. The South Essex's 1st Battalion is out of men, and War Secretary Lord Fenner refuses to send more. Sharpe goes to England and finds the 2nd Battalion nearly empty. Lady Anne Camoynes, Fenner's mistress, seduces him and warns him off, and he kills two assassins, one wearing a regimental sergeant's uniform. Sharpe and Harper enlist under fake names and reach a secret camp on Foulness Island, where Fenner, Simmerson and Colonel Girdwood are selling trained recruits to other regiments. Jane Gibbons, Simmerson's niece, helps Sharpe rescue Harper. At a parade in Hyde Park, Sharpe shows the battalion to the Prince Regent. Lady Anne blackmails Fenner with the ledgers, and Sharpe marries Jane.
