Quick recap

1813. French spy Pierre Ducos wants Spain out of its alliance with Britain and pays Father Hacha and his brother, the partisan El Matarife. The marquesa Helena writes to her husband accusing Sharpe of trying to rape her, and the marquis challenges him to a duel that's broken up because Wellington has banned dueling. That night, El Matarife murders the marquis. Sharpe is sentenced to hang, and Hogan has another condemned man hanged in his place. Sharpe goes after the marquesa, frees her from a convent, is captured by General Verigny, questioned by Ducos and escapes. At Vitoria, Colonel Leroy is killed and Sharpe holds the South Essex together. Afterward, he kills El Matarife in a duel, and he and Harper force Hacha to clear his name.
