Quick recap

1813. French spy Pierre Ducos wants to split Spain from Britain and uses Sharpe as a pawn. Helena, the marquesa, writes to her husband claiming Sharpe assaulted her, and the marquis challenges Sharpe to a duel, which Wellington has banned. That night the marquis is murdered, and Sharpe is tried and sentenced to hang. Wellington can't save him without wrecking the alliance, so another condemned man is secretly hanged in his place. Presumed dead, Sharpe goes after the marquesa with Harper. He's captured by the French, escapes and reaches the Battle of Vitoria. Ducos gets rid of Father Hacha, his accomplice, and El Matarife is shot by Major Mendoza as he's about to stab Sharpe in the back.
