Quick recap

A gang of deserters from several armies, led by the Frenchman Pot-au-Feu, takes the village of Adrados and seizes two women: an English nobleman's wife and a French colonel's wife. Sharpe is sent with the ransom and finds out the gang's 'colonel' is Hakeswill. One of the hostages is Isabella, an old flame of his. Sharpe works side by side with French colonel Dubreton while a spy, Major Ducos, looks on. Midway through, he's promoted to major. He takes the convent and frees the women, but Hakeswill gets away and kills Teresa. Recaptured, Hakeswill faces a firing squad, and Sharpe watches the execution from a distance.
