Quick recap

Running from school bullies, Eustace and Jill Pole go through a door into Aslan's country. Jill is given four signs to find Prince Rilian, Caspian's son, missing for ten years. In Narnia, Caspian is now an old man. With gloomy Puddleglum the Marsh-wiggle, they head north among giants. A lady in green sends them to the giants' castle at Harfang, where they find out they're meant to be the feast. They escape into Underland and meet a knight bound to a silver chair. Freed, he turns out to be Rilian, enchanted by the lady, who becomes a serpent and is killed. Rilian gets home in time to see his father die. In Aslan's country, Caspian lives again, young, and scares off the bullies.

What changed on screen

  1. ChangeFaithful to the end

The 1990 BBC series, in six episodes, follows the book closely. It's the only version of The Silver Chair that ever made it to the screen.

  2. ChangeOne extra dragon

In the series, on the way north, the three run into a dragon, and Eustace, a former dragon himself, talks it into leaving. That scene isn't in the book.

  3. ChangeSame actress

Barbara Kellerman, the White Witch of the 1988 series, comes back as the Lady of the Green Kirtle. The double casting is the BBC's idea; in the book they're two separate characters.
