Quick recap

At the funeral of his mentor, John Jack Thompson, Bosch gets a murder book from the widow that Thompson took when he retired: the 1990 killing of John Hilton, 24, in a Hollywood alley. Bosch can't tell if his mentor wanted to solve it or bury it, so he brings in Renée Ballard. She finds sloppy work, redacted interviews and leads pointing to a gang. Meanwhile, Bosch helps Mickey Haller defend a man accused of killing a judge and notices the same paramedic treated both men, which explains the DNA. The case collapses, but the real killer is still out there. Ballard is also investigating a fire in a homeless man's tent that was no accident.
