Quick recap

After an incident with his boss, Bosch is put on forced stress leave and ordered into therapy with psychologist Carmen Hinojos. Without a badge, he reopens the case he never let go of: his mother Marjorie Lowe's strangling in 1961, when he was 12. The trail leads to prosecutor Arno Conklin, his fixer Gordon Mittel and pimp Johnny Fox, supposedly killed in a hit-and-run. The past bites back: Lt. Harvey Pounds is murdered after Bosch uses his name, and Mittel dies falling off a cliff during a struggle. Bosch reaches the truth about that night, but it doesn't bring the relief he wanted. The book ends with him in Florida, visiting Jasmine Corian.
