Quick recap

The Gladers have left the maze and wake in a dormitory that feels like a refuge. Thomas is woken by Teresa's voice in his head, and soon sees she has vanished. In her place is Aris, a boy from another maze. Cranks, sick with the Flare, attack the building, and the rescuers turn up dead. When Mr. Janson, the Rat Man, explains that everyone is infected, the clock starts: two weeks to cross the Scorch, a land baked by the sun, and reach a safe haven. Thomas and his friends face storms, traps and dangerous people, and trust among them wears thin.
