Mavis

Mavis grows up inside the hotel, far from humans, until her 118th birthday, when she asks her father to see the world. He agrees but stages a fake trip to scare her. Mavis hurries back to the hotel, where she meets Johnny. The two feel an instant connection, what monsters call a zing.

At the party, Mavis opens a present from her mother, Martha: a book about how she and Dracula fell in love. When her father's lie is exposed, Mavis climbs to the roof, hurt. The book makes Dracula rethink everything, and in the end he allows the romance. Mavis and Johnny kiss to close the party.

Mavis and Johnny marry, and she gives birth to Dennis. As he nears five, she starts thinking about moving to California, where she believes her son would have a more normal childhood. Her father objects and plans to keep the boy close. Mavis feels out of place at her in-laws' home, but Johnny persuades her to stay at the hotel.

When she finds out Dracula took Dennis to a dangerous camp, Mavis scolds him and says she will leave after the party. At the party, Vlad frightens his grandson, and Dennis flees into the forest. When the boy shows his fangs, Mavis reconciles with her father, and the family stays together.

Mavis thinks her father works too hard and books a monster cruise for the family. Seeing her dad interested in Captain Ericka, she grows suspicious of her motives. Later, when Dracula confesses he zinged with Ericka, Mavis is confused, and when Ericka rejects him, guilty.

When Johnny becomes a dragon and Dracula a human, Mavis and Ericka confront Van Helsing, and Mavis heads to South America. She finds Johnny already very changed and volatile, leads him to the cave with the crystal and tries to reverse it. The ray fails because he stayed a monster too long, until Dracula tells him he sees him as family.

In the series, Mavis is 114 and spends her days at the hotel with friends Wendy Blob, Hank N. Stein and Pedro while her father is away. Here she is paler than in the films and keeps getting into trouble with Aunt Lydia. She turns 115 in the season one finale and earns her family cape.

Selena Gomez voices Mavis in all four films. Miley Cyrus was announced for the role in 2011 but left in February 2012. In the series, Bryn McAuley provides the voice.
