Altered Carbon

In a future where the mind is stored in a stack at the base of the skull and can switch bodies, Takeshi Kovacs, the last of the Envoys, wakes up 250 years after his death in the body of cop Elias Ryker. He's been bought by Laurens Bancroft, a Bay City Meth who came back in a clone and wants to know who killed him. Lieutenant Kristin Ortega, Ryker's ex, keeps a close eye on Kovacs. Kovacs learns that his sister, Reileen, is alive and behind Bancroft's death. Kovacs kills Reileen, the flying brothel Head in the Clouds goes down, Bancroft is arrested and Kovacs is pardoned. In the end, he sets out to find Quellcrist Falconer.

   In the book, Kovacs's hotel has an AI modeled on Jimi Hendrix. The musician's estate wouldn't license his image because of the violence, so the show created the Raven, run by Poe.
