Quick recap

The Baudelaires are now raised by an entire village, V.F.D., run by a Council of Elders and full of rules and crows. Their caretaker is Hector, the handyman. Poems from Isadora Quagmire turn up under the crows' tree with clues: the twins are being held in the village. The police arrest a man named Jacques, who is found dead the next day. Olaf, disguised as Detective Dupin, frames the orphans, who are sentenced to burn at the stake. They break out of jail, find the Quagmires inside the fountain and race to Hector's hot air mobile home. Police chief Luciana, who is Esmé, attacks with a harpoon gun, and the Baudelaires are left behind. The Quagmires escape with Hector.
