Years later, Derek's school collapsed, Matilda died and he lost custody of his son. Derek lives in seclusion until he is invited to a fashion show, where an Interpol agent is investigating the murders of pop stars, all caught with the same expression. Derek and Hansel return to a fashion world now run by newcomers. Ben Stiller directs and stars, with Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell and Penélope Cruz. It opened on February 12, 2016.
Stiller said in 2008 he wanted a sequel worthy of the original. Justin Theroux was hired in 2010 to write, and Owen Wilson floated 'Twolander' as a working title. The script only settled after several drafts.
