Hansel McDonald is the model who takes Derek's title in the first film and becomes his best friend in the second. Owen Wilson plays him in both.
Hansel is the rising star who dethrones Derek as the most sought-after model. The two face off in a runway walk-off, and Derek is humiliated. Later Hansel draws close to Derek and becomes his ally in the probe of the plot against the prime minister.
In the second film, Hansel was injured in the center's collapse and lives in Malibu. Billy Zane invites him to a fashion show, and he and Derek reunite. The fashion world is now dominated by new models, and neither is relevant anymore.
Owen Wilson was Stiller's first choice for the role. Jake Gyllenhaal auditioned, according to Wikipedia.
