Quick recap

Ragnall Ivarson, driven out of Ireland, invades Mercia near Ceaster with allies including Jarl Haesten. After seizing the unfinished fort of Eads Byrig, he turns north to take Northumbria. Uhtred retakes the fort and has Æthelstan kill Haesten. Ragnall hands Uhtred back his elder son, Father Oswald, alive but mutilated. Uhtred sails to Ireland to rescue Stiorra and Sigtryggr, and together they take Eoferwic from Brida, who is killed by Stiorra. Chasing Ragnall, Uhtred's trap fails and he is surrounded in a Roman ruin. He frees Ragnall's hostages, half the enemy army switches sides, and Ragnall is beaten and killed.
