Quick recap

Years later Uhtred is raising Æthelstan as a warrior. Brida returns at the head of fanatical Danes and attacks Eoferwic, where Sigtryggr and Stiorra rule. Æthelflæd dies, and the ealdorman Aethelhelm schemes to put his grandson Ælfweard on Edward's throne. A war between Saxons and Danes nearly breaks out and costs Sigtryggr his life. Brida dies too, and Uhtred burns her body. Aethelhelm flees to Bebbanburg and allies with Constantin, king of the Scots. Uhtred leads the armies north, kills Wihtgar and takes the fortress. Aethelhelm takes his own life. The series ends with Uhtred finally home at Bebbanburg.
