Executive officer Jim Holden answers a distress call, and the ice hauler Canterbury is destroyed. He blames Mars in public, and the Solar System slides toward war. On Ceres, Detective Joe Miller searches for Julie Mao, a tycoon's daughter, and becomes obsessed with her. Their paths cross on Eros Station, where the company Protogen unleashes the protomolecule, an alien agent, on the population. Holden and his crew, now on the Rocinante, help raid Protogen's research station. Eros, taken over by the protomolecule, heads for Earth. Miller finds what's left of Julie and talks her into turning away. The station crashes into Venus, where something begins to build.

ChangeAvasarala from the start
The book sticks with Holden and Miller, and Avasarala never appears. The show puts her on Earth from the first episode.
In the book we get Holden's thoughts as Dresden tries to win him over, and we see he nearly gave in before Miller fires. The show has no way to show that.
No spoilersThe easter eggs give away parts of the title. They open once you mark it as seen.
