Quick recap

Twenty years on, Lorkin, son of Sonea and Akkarin, graduates and heads to Sachaka as Ambassador Dannyl's assistant. Sonea is worried sick, but the law bars the Black Magician from leaving Imardin. In the capital, Arvice, Tyvara, a Traitor posing as a slave at the Guild House, comes into Lorkin's life, and he learns that Sachaka hides a secret power beyond its black magicians: the Traitors, rebels living in hiding. In Imardin, Cery loses most of his family to the Thief Hunter and asks Sonea for help. He reveals the Thieves have been fighting a deadly war for years, and the Guild fears a rogue magician is behind it. The book ends with Lorkin among the Traitors and the Hunter still at large.
