On the Sabaody Archipelago, Luffy punches a Celestial Dragon to save the mermaid Camie. Kuma returns and scatters each of them to a different corner of the world. Luffy lands on Amazon Lily, home of Empress Boa Hancock, and learns his brother Ace will be executed at Marineford. He breaks into Impel Down prison and escapes with an unlikely gang that includes Buggy, Crocodile, Ivankov and Jinbe. At Marineford, Whitebeard's pirates fight the Navy in a massive war. Luffy manages to free Ace, but his brother dies shielding him from Admiral Akainu, and Whitebeard falls soon after. Shanks ends the war. Luffy recovers with Jinbe's help and sends his crew a message: meet again in two years, after training for the New World.
