Eighteen Poirot stories that had only appeared in magazines and American books. Hastings narrates almost all of them. There's a murder at a victory costume ball, an heiress killed on the Plymouth Express, valuables vanishing from a flat and a case whose only clue is a phone call. The standout is The Chocolate Box, in which Poirot tells of a case from his police days in Belgium and admits he got it badly wrong. He asks Hastings to say “chocolate box” whenever he seems too pleased with himself. The stories are short and standalone, good for reading between the novels.
