Mater

In Radiator Springs, McQueen warms up to the residents, and it's tow truck Mater he bonds with most. When the rookie needs help at the final race, his friends from town, Mater among them, show up as his pit crew.

In the short, Mater spends the day scaring the neighbors and teases McQueen about the Ghostlight. When Sheriff says the legend is real, the prankster gets scared and starts making the clanking noise the light hates most.

In Tokyo, Mater is mistaken for an American agent because of a device a spy plants on him. Agents Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell take him seriously. McQueen snaps at him, and Mater leaves with Finn and Holley to investigate. In the end it's Mater who unmasks the mastermind and is honored by the Queen.

When McQueen doesn't know how to go on, he calls Mater. He's the one who suggests tracking down Smokey, Doc Hudson's mentor, in Thomasville.

In the series, Mater says he'll be gone a few days for his sister Mato's wedding. McQueen goes along. At the end, at the wedding, he turns out to belong to a wealthy family. The groom, Mateo, is Cruz Ramirez's cousin.

Larry the Cable Guy voices Mater in the Cars films and the series. Mater also starred in the Cars Toons, and in Planes, the plane Skipper and Sparky came from a short called Air Mater.
