The vampire who tells his own story

Louis is the narrator of Interview with the Vampire: a vampire who feels guilty about every kill and spends eternity trying to understand what he's become. In the AMC show he's an early-20th-century New Orleans businessman; on film, an 18th-century planter. In both versions his life revolves around Lestat and Claudia.

Storyville, 1910

Louis is a Creole brothel owner in Storyville, New Orleans, when he meets Lestat. After his brother Paul jumps from a roof, Louis drowns in guilt and agrees to be turned.

He can't kill the way Lestat does. He suggests hunting only bad people and switches to animal blood. When an alderman goes after Black-owned businesses, Louis kills him and hangs the body in public. The city burns, and he pulls young Claudia out of a burning boarding house.
