Meet the Parents

A proposal gone sideways

Greg, a nurse in Chicago, wants to propose to Pam during her sister's wedding. The ring is in checked luggage and goes missing. At the Byrnes house he hurts Pam's sister, floods the yard, breaks an urn and accidentally sets the altar on fire. To hide that he lost the cat Jinx, he paints a stray. In the end he's thrown out, heads to the airport and gets detained. Jack turns up, the two make peace, and Greg finally proposes to Pam. He arrives with a rare flower as a gift for Jack, who doesn't even recognize it, and a comment about a children's song that ends up making Jack suspect he uses marijuana.

Both sets of parents

Six months before the wedding, Greg takes the Byrneses to Miami to meet his parents, Bernie and Roz. The clash of styles is immediate. Left alone with Little Jack, he accidentally teaches him a bad word. Jack suspects a secret son, and it ends in an argument where Greg, under truth serum, blurts out that Pam is pregnant. In the end he gets out of jail alongside Jack and Bernie, and the couple marry that same weekend. Just before, Greg and Pam learn she's pregnant and decide to keep it quiet until the wedding. The secret slips out at the worst time.

Jack's successor

Five years later, Greg has a stable life, twins and a side job promoting a drug. When Jack picks him as the family's next head, the choice becomes another test. The rep, Andi, gets too close, and Jack misreads a scene. The two fight, Jack has a heart attack and Greg tends to him. As paramedics take him away, Jack admits he believes him. Both sets of parents decide to move close by, and Greg and Pam try to talk them out of it. At a medical conference, Greg runs into Bob, Debbie's ex-husband, who says Jack had planned to pick him as "The Bobfather." Greg also has to decide whether to enroll the kids in a private school, another thing Jack watches closely.
