Quick recap

Five years after the wedding, Greg and Pam have five-year-old twins and are planning a move. Pam's parents, Jack and Dina, come to visit, and Jack announces he's looking for a successor to lead the family. The choice seems to land on Greg, but a string of misunderstandings, an overly friendly pharmaceutical rep and Greg's side job promoting a drug complicate everything. Jack tests his son-in-law once more, this time with his health at stake. Bernie and Roz, Greg's parents, return in smaller parts, and Jack keeps an eye on his son-in-law.

  1. Behind the scenesDustin Hoffman only signed after shooting wrapped

Dustin Hoffman's return as Bernie was confirmed on August 24, 2010. The studio only agreed salary terms after principal photography had wrapped, and several alternate scenes were shot as a precaution. In the end his part was much smaller than in the previous film.

  2. Behind the scenesThe release date moved because of Hoffman

In January 2010 the date moved from July 30 to December 22, officially to take advantage of the Christmas weekend. It later came out that the real reason was Dustin Hoffman's decision to return, which forced the shoot to be rearranged.
