Father Mother Sister Brother is a film in three parts. Each one takes place in a different country. In all of them, grown children try to talk to their parents, or to each other, and almost never say what they mean.
In the United States, Jeff and Emily drive through a snowy little town to visit their father, who has lived alone since their mother died. Jeff sends him money behind his sister's back. The old man, for his part, seems to be hiding something about his own situation.
In Dublin, a famous writer gets ready for her yearly tea with her daughters, Timothea and Lilith. All three live in the same city, but this is the only day they see each other.
In Paris, siblings Skye and Billy meet up after their parents die in a plane crash in the Azores. They go back to the family's old apartment and sort through what was left behind. Jarmusch shoots it all at an easy pace, with dry humor and awkward silences. The three episodes echo each other through small details that keep coming back.
