Dead as a Doornail

Jason, bitten in the last book, turns half-panther at the first full moon. Someone is shooting shifters across Louisiana: Sam takes a bullet in the leg, so does panther leader Calvin Norris, and Calvin suspects Jason. Eric lends Merlotte's a bartender, Charles Twining. Sookie's house is set on fire, and the fairy Claudine saves her. Sookie gets shot too. With Sam, she finds the shooter: Sweetie, the bar's cook, who was bitten by a werewolf, and Andy Bellefleur kills her. Charles turns out to be a hit man sent to hurt Eric through Sookie. In the pack contest, Patrick wins and kills Alcide's father. Sookie tells Eric what happened during the days he forgot.
