Quick recap

Vesemir is a vain witcher who hunts monsters for the money. He grew up as a servant alongside his best friend Illyana and traded that life for training at Kaer Morhen. In Kaedwen, a leshen controlled by Elven magic leads Vesemir and Tetra Gilcrest, a sorceress who hates witchers, to the elf Kitsu. They learn that corrupt witchers led by Deglan have been creating monsters to keep themselves in work. Tetra uses that to march an army on Kaer Morhen, and during the attack she kills the mages who knew how to make witchers. Deglan kills Tetra before he dies and asks Vesemir to protect the apprentices. A wounded Illyana dies by a lake. Vesemir finds the boys who are left, a young Geralt among them.
