The communities mourn, and anger builds in Alexandria. Some residents blame Rick for the deaths and even attack him. Rick calms the town with a speech and starts getting everyone ready to fight: Michonne returns, weapons get made and the communities train together. Meanwhile, Eugene keeps up radio contact with a woman named Stephanie from another, faraway community. Negan leaves his cell and slips into Whisperer territory, where he earns Alpha's trust. The volume ends with Negan killing Alpha and returning to Alexandria with her head for Rick.
