Quick recap

Twenty years later, Maxon and America rule Illéa, and their 18-year-old daughter Eadlyn is set to be the first woman to inherit the throne, ahead of her twin, Ahren. Ending the castes has left the country restless, so her parents propose a Selection to distract people. Eadlyn hates the idea but agrees to three months with 35 young men, including Kile Woodwork, who never even applied. Cold toward the suitors, she has disastrous dates, kisses Kile, and warms to Henri, a cook who barely speaks English. She learns the public sees her as distant. Ahren leaves to be with Camille, the princess of France, and writes her a letter urging her to open up. Soon after, America has a heart attack. Eadlyn decides to take the Selection seriously.
