Quick recap

June 1815, right after Waterloo. Lieutenant Colonel Sharpe rides into France ahead of the army to rescue British spy Alan Fox from the citadel at Ham and takes the fortress by a ruse. Back with the army, he finds Major Charles Morris, an old acquaintance from India, now commands his battalion. In Paris, he investigates La Fraternité, a Bonapartist ring plotting to kill Wellington and other Allied leaders. Fox vanishes, and the trail leads to Colonel Lanier. Sharpe leads an attack through a tunnel, is wounded and goes back into the fight. Lanier challenges him to a duel. Morris refuses to fight in Sharpe's place and is arrested for cowardice. Sharpe breaks Lanier's sword arm, Lanier surrenders, and Sharpe retires to Normandy with Lucille.
