In the Forest of Okoya, a Zarude finds a human baby by the river and, against his tribe's rules, raises the boy as his son, naming him Koko. Ten years later, Koko meets Ash and Pikachu and learns he's human. The two look for clues about his family and find his parents' lab; they were scientists studying the forest's Great Tree. Dr. Zed, head of a company, wants to exploit the tree's healing power and invades Okoya with machines, and is revealed as the one responsible for the death of Koko's parents. Zarude is hurt, and Koko uses the jungle's power to heal him. Zed is arrested, and Koko leaves with Ash to be a bridge between humans and Pokémon.
